This page contains my music related memorabilia items I found, as unfortunately I seem to have lost some in my many moves, mainly about concerts I attended.
Someone much younger asked me recently why I kept and digitized all this memorabilia, so my answer was:
- Back in those days we didn’t have hand-phones to take pictures, and in big concerts cameras were not allowed, and anyway we didn’t carry a camera around when going out, so basically we didn’t have any souvenirs from those nights out, except for these.
- It is a way of traveling back through time and remembering our youth.
- It reminds me of how musically filled my youth was and how many concerts I used to attend, especially in the 1980s.
- I think some look pretty cool !
As some of this is based on my memory, especially concerning dates, if you find any error please let me know.
March 23, 1975 Beau Dommage concert - Ticket
I had the chance to attend the legendary Québec band Beau Dommage concert in Drummondville with a handful of people, before they became famous and their concerts attracted thousands of people. It was such a cozy crowd that after the concert I got to go on stage and talk with them, get my ticket autographed by the whole band (see right), and even helped them pack their gear.
May 23, 1980 The Ramones concert at Le Plateau in Montreal - Ticket
I attended this eventful concert of The Ramones at Le Plateau in Montreal. First given the punk crowd amassed outside the venue and the delay in opening the doors, the facade was trashed and received its share of thrown beer bottles. Then when local opening act Lucien Francoeur tried to play he got into a spitting and fighting match with the crowd, who obviously was not there to see him. When The Ramones finally hit the stage they played their set at 100 mph without interruption, which given the already short duration of their songs didn’t last long enough for the crowd who pretty much trashed the inside of the venue.
August 23, 1980 Heatwave Festival - Ticket
I attended, with nearly 100,000 people, what was a ‘Woodstock like’ New Wave festival in a field near Toronto, where the B-52’s, Talking Heads, Pretenders, Elvis Costello, etc. all played lengthy sets, making it one of the best concerts ever. (For more details: click here.)
October 26, 1991 Rod Stewart concert at the Kemper Arena in Kansas City - Ticket
When my friend Mauro dragged me from Omaha to Kansas City to see Rod Stewart, I must admit I wasn’t that convinced I would like the show, but I was wrong and realized I knew and liked so many of his songs, and he gave a heck of a show.
Sorry I eventually got lazy on the descriptions!
