“Sound Sculpture” in my Mixes

Dear friends.

A friend of mine asked me recently why I do not produce more new Mixes these days given the fact I am stuck at home, so here is a bit of an explanation.

On top of the obvious songs selection, order and mixing, which are actually the easy parts, I spend a lot of time doing what I like to call “Sound Sculpture”, which consists of adjusting the sound level within each song, as shown in the example above by the fluctuating line in the middle that represents the volume. This gives a smoother listening experience by for example lowering the volume in the parts of the song where the singer screams or any other big variations, this of course depends a lot on the song and is normally more intricate that in the example above, but bottom line I do some on every song in my Mixes, which is why it takes me on average 2 days to create each Mix, so please bear with me.
